I normally, never ever keep any cat separated for more than a short period (a few months). If they just can't get along or if some male starts to spray like crazy, I will either neuter quickly, or if it's disagreement between cats, I sometimes move one to a "fodervärd". So Who am I? My name is Malin, born and raised in Northern Sweden, more specifically Boden. Cats have always been my passion, from my first cat Sotis who came into my life when I was 8 years old. Then came TusseTurbo, who was an unexpected son of my friend Linda's cat Nisse, who turned out to be a Nissa. Later also came Kevelina, and a Chinchilla Persian called Skrållan. All my cats have always been neutered from a young age, as well as been indoor cats. I began with Cornish Rex, in 1995 when I bought my first purebred cat. At that time there were not many CRX in Sweden, there were probably no more than about 3-400 including neutered ones. This meant that it was important to keep track of how you bred. My first CRX Nattsmygarn Fido Forte had Kallibunker, the absolute first Cornish Rex in 10th generation, the breed was that new. I have always been curious, and I quickly started learning color genetics. This is still one of the most fun things I know. But I have also learned a lot of other things over the years, finally I started posting articles on my website, after a while this turned into a bookshelf of articles. Later on I talked to a breeder in Holland who thought it would be cool if the site was also in Dutch, we created a group conversation with a French breeder, who thought it should also be in French, and soon I had registered www.mainecooneducation.com which can be found under Knowledge in the menu. I installed a CMS system, and thats how it all began. Today MCE is available in lots of different languages, and there is always a need for more people to keep track of the translations. If you are fluent in more than one language and would like to help, and has a good knowledge about breeding, please get in touch! Around 2014 I switched from SVERAK (FIFe) to WCF and became a member of Hallandskatten, when I started breeding, IDP (Independent) was big and there were several different clubs in Sweden. In 2019 one Sunday, I sat with a friend in Halmstad and thought about how sad it was that so many IDP clubs had closed down, and that it would be lovely if the number of clubs, could increase again. All said and done, when I got home I immediately started working on the idea, and on Tuesday we had a kick-off meeting. And Göteborgskatten was born, at that time we as well as all the other IDP clubs in Sweden WCF. There was a lot of bureaucracy and shortly after the club started, all but ONE of the former IDP clubs left WCF. Why this was done is a LONG story for another time. But this resulted in us becoming IDP again, the club is now almost 6 years old, that grows every year. I have a couple of missions in the club. I am Chairman and Stud Bookkeeper, but also webmaster together with another member. In addition to the club and MCE, I also work as a volunteer Database Coordinator in PawPeds. Which means that I help everyone who is in charge of the various databases, with various problems they might encounter. I will step in if there's a crisis and help adding pedigrees to PawPeds, I sort out when something is wrong, I make sure the Maintainers can do their non-profit mission without any problems. To be able to afford my rather expensive hobby, I of course have a "normal" job as well, I work with IT and have the great privilege of being able to work from home, which makes it enormously easier fro me, when it's time for the cats to have kittens. Since I work from home I only need to take time off when they give birth and not several days before and after the expected day. (Swedish animal protection law demands that the female is supervised during delivery). |
